The Tide Rules · the published rule
Rule v1 tl-rule-v1 · 1.2.0 · live
Everything Tideline shows — every state, flip, alert and API row — is produced by this rule and says so. The rule never changes in place: a change that could alter any ledger row is a new version with its own ledger. This page is generated from the code that runs, and hashed.

Display bands
Tide in, slack water and tide out are a reading aid over the binary direction: slack water means the close is within 0.5 × ATR(10) of the line, on either side. presentation only: the band is never ledgered and never alters a flip.
Candles and data
States are read on completed candles only; the running candle is never shown, alerted or ledgered.
- Daily close
- Kraken and Coinbase 00:00 UTC; Yahoo: exchange close for indices and commodities; 00:00 UTC for crypto.
- Weekly candle
- kraken: Thursday-anchored, closes Wednesday 24:00 UTC (USD)yahoo: Monday-anchored, closes Sunday 24:00 UTC (USD)coinbase: Monday-anchored, closes Sunday 24:00 UTC (USD)Weekly candles are defined by their venue; a fallback venue with a different week is never used for weekly rows.
- When we read
- Crypto at 00:05 UTC; indices and commodities at 06:00 UTC, after settlement revisions; weekly candles at 14:00 Europe/London.
- Sources
- Crypto: kraken, coinbase, yahoo. Commodities and indices: yahoo. Every ledger row names its source.
- Universe
- 196 assets · snapshot 038e92bbd4d569ce…
What a record means
- replayed
- computed from price history when the asset entered the universe.
- live
- observed by the writer after the candle closed.
- late
- observed more than 6 h (daily) or 24 h (weekly) after the candle closed, because a slot was missed and re-run; never labelled live.
- corrected
- the venue later served a different close for this candle; a correction record is linked to the row, which is never edited. All corrections.
Rows are never edited or deleted. A bad price print is answered with a correction record linked to the original, and both are shown. A daily SHA-256 of the whole ledger is published on /ledger/hashes and in the community group.
Versioning and changelog
- Major (v2, new ledger): anything that could alter a ledger row — parameters, candle definition, an entry gate.
- Minor (v1.1): context added without touching a row, such as a trend-quality label.
- Patch (v1.0.1): nothing a row could notice.
- Universe changes do not bump: an added asset is replayed from its entry date and tagged; a removed one is kept, marked inactive.
- A candidate rule runs in shadow under its own id for at least 90 days and 40 live flips before any promotion, with 14 days' notice; v1 stays available for six months after.
| 1.2.0 · 2026-10-12 | Correction records. When a venue later serves a different close for a candle already on record, the writer appends a correction linked to that row — the stored print, the revised print, and what the rule would have read from the revised data, including whether the direction would have differed. The row itself is never edited and the stored timeline continues from the original print. Corrections are shown on the asset page, marked on the ledger and listed at /ledger/corrections. |
| 1.1.1 · 2026-10-12 | Indices and commodities are now read at 06:00 UTC instead of 00:05 UTC. Yahoo revises futures closes after the session (settlement versus last print), and 15 commodity rows for 2026-10-09 had been read before the final close. Crypto is still read at 00:05 UTC, the minute after its venues close. No row changed. |
| 1.1.0 · 2026-10-11 | Slack water now uses ATR(10), the same ATR as the Tideline, instead of ATR(14): "within half an ATR of the line" means one ATR everywhere. Presentation only — the band is never ledgered and no flip, direction or line changed. Stored bands were rebuilt from price history for every candle the venues still serve; the handful of oldest Kraken candles that have slid out of its two-year window keep their ATR(14) band and are marked in the rebuild log. |
| 1.0.1 · 2026-10-11 | correction125 daily flip rows, all stamped live and dated October–December 2024, were removed: they were artefacts of recomputing the rule on a price window that slides one day per run, and no stored direction change supported them. The writer is now append-only after an asset's latest candle. The ledger hash for 2026-10-11 was re-taken; the earlier one is shown as superseded. No state, alert or digest was affected. |
| 1.0.0 · 2026-10-08 | Rule v1 goes live on tidetrade.app: Supertrend(10, 3) on completed daily and weekly candles, long or cash. |
